I was referred to Miss Makrydima after a previous gynaecologist failed to properly investigate intermittent post menopausal spotting. I had a cervical polyp which was identified by a nurse when removing my mirena coil. Miss M and I hit it off immediately - same name helped - but she explained thoughtfully the treatment (hysteroscopy) and reassured me that the negative smear test 6 months previously is super accurate and therefore not to worry about the Big C. She and the nurses supporting her listened to my previous history, reminded me several times that if pain was too much then I shoudl say stop. she offered me a replacement coil, showed me the scans on the screen. BEST BIT - there was no pain! unbelievably gentle and I had been nervous given previous experience of hysteroscopy when I was shaking and almost screeching with it. Fabulous service and massive thanks for a great experience!!!

I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (i.e. a full hysterectomy by keyhole surgery) on 15 October 2021 at Epsom General Hospital, performed by Miss Makrydima. I found Miss Makrydima easy to talk to on the occasions I met her both before and after the operation, and she explained things very well. Aged 74, six weeks after a major operation I have made a good recovery, feel well and have been told I can gradually get back to my normal active life. Cancer was found to be just starting but has been removed, and thorough post-operative testing for cancer has all proved negative so I don't need any further treatment. Since the operation the swollen legs, feet and ankles I have experienced for at least 35 years hasn't returned. Also, since the operation, when I've passed water I no longer have the misleading and compelling feeling of needing to pass more water urgently. If I ever needed another gynealogical operation (unlikely as I no longer have any of that equipment in me!) I would definitely wish to be looked after by Miss Makrydima. I would also like to praise the aneasthetic team. Just before the general aneasthetic was administered, I had an injection in my back to provide pain control in the hours immediately after the operation. This was thought best because of another condition I have. The aneasthetists couldn't have been kinder or more professional.

I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy performed by Miss Makrydima on 20th September at St. Helier Hospital. My operation was more complicated as I had a large caesarean scar. Due to Miss Makrydima's expertise, she managed the surgery perfectly. Miss Makrydima is not only a superb, experienced surgeon, she has a wonderful caring manner. She telephoned me on many occasions asking how I was and explained everything that I needed to know. It was a very worrying time for me, but she made the whole experience run very smoothly and put me at ease at all times. I am so grateful for the care and attention that she has given me and I would recommend Miss Makrydima to any woman with any gynaecological problems.

On 19th June I underwent a full hysterectomy carried out by Dr Makrydima. She explained fully why I was having this operation and what she intended to do. My operation was complicated by the amount of surgery I had had previously. Because of this she was not sure if keyhole surgery was going to be the end outcome but she made me feel that if she could she would as she emphasised that the recovery process for me would be much better. She made me feel more confident in what was a very difficult experience as because of covid you enter hospital entirely on your own with no family support with you. After the operation she told me what she had done and I found her manner very professional but friendly. After 4 weeks recovery I attended her clinic appointment where she presented the results of the operation and discharged me from her care. I found the whole experience from her team very reassuring and professional and cannot recommend her expertise highly enough.
